New enhancements help retailers lower operating costs, increase business agility and improve the shopping experience for customers
DULUTH, Georgia – At its inaugural unified retail software user conference, NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today announced a new software release (7.0) of itsAdvanced Checkout Solution with enhancements that will help grocers increase business agility, lower operating costs and provide an enhanced shopping experience to customers. The release is available for both the NCR Advanced Checkout Solution and the NCR Advanced Checkout Solution for Independent Retailers (ACS-IR).
Key enhancements include a new, Web-enabled back office that gives increased access to vital business information from anywhere in the retailer’s network. For example, a store manager can now remotely access financial data or make real-time pricing changes.
Several new enhancements offer an improved experience for shoppers and cashiers alike. These include the addition of graphical produce look-up to the touch-enabled NCR DynaKey™ display. This can help reduce wait times for shoppers, as cashiers can more easily and intuitively look up non-barcoded items, such as produce, and reduce transaction errors. NCR Human Factors Engineering studies show reductions in training costs of up to 60 percent with the NCR DynaKey user interface.
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web Services are added to the current support for the National Retail Federation’s Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS), including XML-based POSLog, the most widely adopted IXRetail schema. These additions mean that retailers can see significant reductions in administration and implementation costs and reduce the time to integrate third-party applications.
Beverages & More Inc. (BevMo!), a leadingspecialty retailer of alcoholic beverages and related products, operating 109 stores in the western United States , is a beta tester of the new release.

Multi-lingual support is also now included in the cashier interface and back office functions, which can further streamline usability and assist in cashier training. New configuration management features can help grocers bring on new services more quickly, such as food court operations.
