ATLANTA, March 16, 2018 – Chris Miller, VP Financial Services, NCR UK & Ireland, NCR Ltd has been appointed as one of HRH The Prince of Wales’s Ambassadors for Industrial Cadets at the Annual Industrial Cadet Awards at IET London: Savoy Place on 7th March.

Industrial Cadets is an accreditation for young peoples’ experiences of industry in science, technology, engineering and maths, designed to maximise the value of activities to guide and inspire young people into these industries. The idea for the Industrial Cadet accreditation was originally seeded in a conversation about providing effective experiences of work and industry between HRH The Prince of Wales and executives of the Tata Group in 2010. Since that time His Royal Highness has taken a keen interest in the establishment of Industrial Cadets as a national accreditation and its recent rapid expansion, appointing a small number of Ambassadors for Industrial Cadets to encourage the growth of the Awards in all sectors of industry.

Chris began his career with Access, the Joint Credit Card Company, as a Software Engineer in 1982. He subsequently worked for the Bank of England in 1986, and then a series of US software manufacturers since 1988 in a variety of software engineering and sales roles.  In 2000, Chris focused on Sales and had a number of commercial leadership roles, culminating with his appointment as Managing Director for the UK & Ireland business in 2007.  In that role, Chris led the software manufacturer to be recognised as one of the Top 100 Sunday Times Best Companies to work for.

It was also during his 13-year career at CA that Chris started contributing to Higher Education as a founder employer of the IT Management for Business Degree, connecting employers with undergraduates throughout their degree.

In 2012, Chris joined Dell as Executive Director, responsible for the manufacturer’s software businesses across Northern Europe.  It was during this period that Loughborough University formally recognised his contribution to the IT industry and improving UK skills by the award of Doctorate of Technology in 2015.

Chris joined NCR earlier this year, and leads their Financial Services business for the UK and Ireland.

Julie Feest, Chief Executive of EDT, the charity that co-ordinates Industrial Cadets says,
“His Royal Highness’s Ambassadors for industrial Cadets are a key driving force in spreading the news about what Industrial Cadets can achieve in ensuring the inspirational quality of accredited workplace experiences. In this Year of Engineering everybody seems to be agreed that engaging young people in school with careers in science, engineering and technology careers is the best way to try to close the skills gaps in those industries. It is a credit to them that HRH’s Ambassadors are prepared to put in time and energy to spread the word among employers that Industrial Cadets is the tool that can ensure that workplace experiences are comparable and of consistently high quality.”

Chris ads: “Having been fortunate to enjoy an exciting and rewarding STEM-related career, I am thrilled to be an Ambassador for Industrial Cadets and to help inspire young people to be the best, and make STEM their career choice too.  Industrial Cadets offers unique and accredited frameworks, providing hands-on experiences for its cadets to gain important insight and work experience, and enabling employers to engage with the next generation of UK STEM talent, which is so important for the future of UK industry.  I look forward to continuing to make a difference and contributing to its ongoing success.”

About Industrial Cadets
Industrial Cadets is a rapidly expanding accreditation for experiences of industry in science, technology, engineering and maths – the STE(A)M disciplines. The idea for the accreditation was originally seeded in a conversation about providing effective experiences of work and industry between HRH The Prince of Wales and executives of the Tata Group.

The Industrial Cadet Awards 2018 took place on 7th March 2018 at IET London: Savoy Place. At the event the Prince spoke, presented awards and met the new ambassadors appointed that day.

By July 2018, over 15,000 young people will have ‘graduated’ from Industrial Cadet accredited programmes and an ambitious expansion plan targets 500,000 by July 2021, if the right partners and support can be established. The growth of Industrial Cadets has reflected the demand among employers for an accreditation that can assure them that resources invested in engaging young people are most effectively employed. Industrial Cadets encourages the young person to continue on their learner journey of STE(A)M through a Bronze, Silver, Gold accreditation, a structure similar to the well-established Duke of Edinburgh Awards. www.industrialcadets.org.uk
