With enthusiasm for Texas barbecue never losing momentum, Teja’s Chocolate & Barbecue Craftory is booming in Tomball, Texas.

Every day when the Moore family opens the business at 11AM, there’s already a line at the door – so we couldn’t wait to a piece of what’s been called the best BBQ in the world.

Team NCR Silver meets the Moores at their family-owned restaurant in the oldest building in Tomball, Texas.

Last month we took our golden ticket to Southeast Texas so we could skip the lunch rush and get a taste of everything we were missing. When we arrived at 9AM, the team had already been there since the wee hours beginning their sometimes 15-hour processes — smoking the highest quality USDA prime meats, marinating one-of-a-kind rubs, prepping the chocolate and preparing the dining room for the influx of customers. It was great watching it all happen, but after all that we were ready to eat!

The lunch menu included spare ribs, turkey, sausage, Pastrami Reuben with sauerkraut, and even romaine wedge salads with house made dressings. Dessert options were creme brulee, chocolate chip cake cookies, chocolate bread pudding with house caramel sauce and more. It was hard to choose. So we had it all!

Best menu item: brisket. Honorable mention: Carrot soufflé.

Husband-and-wife Scott and Michelle run Teja’s together but he calls her “The Boss.”

Owners Scott, Michelle and Greg (husband, wife and brother, respectively) were the first in their local area to sell both artisan craft delicacies and fall-off-the bone barbecue in one location – giving them a serious competitive advantage. The strategic decision has since helped them boost business. “The numbers weren’t going to add up just with chocolate alone, so that’s when the barbecue came into play.”

Their plan worked and today the team uses NCR Silver to power their retail and restaurant operations because it was quick to get started and easy to set up. The system allows them to easily sell food, candy and clothing on multiple devices with one subscription. “Setting up to sell product, food and retail options couldn’t have been easier,” says Scott.

Chocolate dream: Teja’s chocolate sells nearly 1500 Texas-sized truffles per week!

Business has been so good that Teja’s is opening up a second location in 2019, and they’re looking forward to using their point-of-sale system to unify both locations. They’re even upgrading to the new NCR Silver Quantum station to take EMV.
