NCR’s newest manufacturing facility in Chennai, India received the prestigious Gold Certification award from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The Chennai facility is NCR’s third manufacturing plant globally to achieve Green Building Certification and first to triumph with a Gold Certificate. The IGBC handles the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Certifications in India and is a core board member of the World Green Building Council (WGBC) represented by the likes of USA, UK, Germany, Australia & Sweden.
Recognized globally for its Omni-channel technologies, NCR won this prestigious factory specific green building award for its utilization of renewable resources, excellent features and advanced technologies. The plant is one of the few facilities in Mahindra World City’s Chennai campus to obtain IGBC Green Factory certification.
It has always been important for NCR to manufacture its products in a facility that is sustainable and environmentally responsible. It is also very important to NCR’s customers and consumers that use the company’s solutions.
The salient features of the plant which led to this achievement of national excellence include:
“It is an extremely proud moment for the NCR team to be awarded with a Gold Certificate by IGBC for our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. NCR’s Budapest, Hungary plant was certified and awarded the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) for its facility — Europe’s de facto measure used to describe a building’s environmental performance in sustainable design, construction and operation and has become one of the most comprehensive and widely recognized measures of a building’s environmental performance.
NCR also was awarded the LEED Certification for speed and innovation in green design and construction for its Columbus, GA, manufacturing plant — one of the very first LEED certified, retrofitted manufacturing plants in the US.
“NCR is committed to conducting all aspects of our business in an environmentally sound manner around the world,” said Rob Visintainer, vice president of Global Manufacturing & Quality, NCR. “We strive to minimize the environmental footprint of all our global operations and products and this recognition reinforces NCR’s commitment to being a concerned corporate entity and setting new benchmarks in manufacturing.”
