Have you ever noticed an NCR logo on the ATM you use? It’s like they are everywhere, right? I set out to discover just how far reaching our ATMs are and found them in some of the most extreme locations in the world.

In the process, I learned that our commitment to ATM service is truly unmatched, and we will go to great heights, literally, to prove it.

At 3,471 meters above sea level, the ATM operated by Raiffeisenbank Luetschinentaeler atop Jungfraujoch in the Alps is the highest location for an ATM in Europe. NCR services it.

HBL, Pakistan’s largest bank, has an ATM at the customs station in Sost, Pakistan on the northern border between Pakistan and China. At 9,438 feet (2,877 m) above sea level, this location, also serviced by NCR, is possibly the highest ATM elevation in Asia.

NCR services the ATM in one small village in India that is so isolated that the it has to be powered by the sun. NCR customer engineers (CEs) travel there regularly to support this solar-powered ATM.

The Cashcard ATM located at the very distant Watinuma Roadhouse in Australia is a 5-6 hour drive from the closest NCR CE in Alice Springs. It is only accessible during the dry season and so remote that the CE must take a satellite phone, an emergency positioning radio beacon, and a supply of water and food in case of emergency.

You can venture from the highest heights to the most southern reaches on the planet and find NCR technology. We service the only two ATMs in Antarctica, which are housed inside the McMurdo Science Station about 839 miles from the South Pole.  The location is so isolated and frozen that it takes months to coordinate service trips, rigorous physical and agility tests, and advanced training in extreme weather work.

According to Aceto, NCR has more than 645 million active users making more than 62 million cash withdrawals each day using NCR ATMs and APTRA software.  No wonder it isn’t unusual to find ATMs in the desert, on ocean-going ships and just about everywhere you can imagine.
