The Innovation Conference painted our nation’s capital GREEN, white and blue
last September 26-28 at the Gaylord National Convention Center and Resort.
This year’s event was bigger than ever, bringing together ~600 representatives
from ~300 financial institutions, industry analysts, technology partners and NCR employees for three days of inspiration, education and collaboration around
how we can transform the financial services industry with innovative ideas and
real solutions over the next year.
“It’s these opportunities when we can come together as innovators to co-
create and brainstorm new ideas in a collaborative setting that really creates
value for consumers and supercharges growth for financial institutions,” said
Jose Resendiz, General Manager of Digital Insight. “Each year I look forward to
connecting with our customers at this high-energy and dynamic forum.”
Keeping with tradition, the Innovation Conference delivered over 50 breakout sessions, tailored to the most
critical topics of concern and interest to our attendees with direct access to subject matter experts both from NCR
and its extensive network of partners.
Each day, NCR leaders took the General Session Hall stage to greet our attendees and share insights on the
industry as well as their vision for it. Keynote speakers, Austan Goolsbee, former Chairman of the President's
Council of Economic Advisers (2010-2011) and Professor of Economics, University of Chicago, Booth School of
Business, and Aneesh Chopra, visionary technology thought leader, author and former Chief Technology Officer of
the United States (2009-2012) shared their vision on the economy and financial industry – including humorous
commentary on the state of the nation and the upcoming presidential elections.
Over and above last year, the Innovation Hall this year has grown to include more NCR Financial Services
solutions, especially, geared towards helping community financial institutions transform their branch models and
develop their omni-channel. Of special note were the Omni-channel Center, which featured the Interactive Banker,
Digital Insight Developer Portal, the Digital Insight App Marketplace for currently available applications, and
consult with our experts about how they could further differentiate their digital banking experiences with custom
Now, the Innovation Conference isn’t all work, no play – and this year, attendees and
guests enjoyed not one, but TWO networking events where they could dine, drink,
dance AND sing while strengthening relationships. Our annual Networking Party,
sponsored by FIS, was held at two, connected venues: first, Bobby McKey’s Dueling
Piano Bar, which showcased how well our attendees can raise their voices outside of a
conference room; and second, Cadillac Ranch, where those with stage fright could get
thrown off a mechanical bull instead of a stage, and still receive applause. As an added
treat for our attendees, MX sponsored an after party the same night at Pose Ultra
Lounge, where we could dance off any excess energy before we retired to bed.
Finally, we closed the Innovation Conference with the
Idea Tank contest. Over past months, we asked you to vote from among the top five
ideas submitted by our financial institution clients. On the last day, these five were
given the stage to pitch their ideas live to our attendees and a panel of judges
comprised of NCR leaders, each with specific areas of expertise. Taking into
consideration online voting, audience impact and judges’ critiques, we determined the
winning innovation idea came from Seth Schaefer, VP Operations at Rivermark
Community Credit Union with whom Digital Insight will partner to make their vision a
reality. Watch their video submission below:
