Started March '97 as call dispatcher for Scotland, progressed my career in technical support in ATM channel management team, the remote support team and then finally to IT Service’s beginning in 2005.

What's an everyday kind of day?
Troubleshooting and resolving end user PC issues, setting up new PC's for staff, ensuring that the call centre agents have the maximum PC up time to deliver service to our customers.

What makes your day?
Fixing very complex or frustrating technical issues, you get a real lift out of finding a solution testing it and then rolling it out, I love the variety of technical work I'm exposed to. it's given me a very broad range of IT experience.

Tell us about an everyday challenge...
The business moves so fast here at the demands of our customers. You have to be very good at adapting and seeing the problem not with just the customers eyes but the operations view and then finally the IT opinion. I always loved the saying “The Impossible we can do, Miracles take a bit longer”

What makes everyday a learning day?
As a teenager like most I never thought I would learn anything past school let alone enjoy learning! Here I am now 41 and I think if I didn't learn something new at work every day my brain would become moosh, There's lots of internal opportunities to learn on NCRU. I learn so much on the job every day I actually get a sense of satisfaction from that.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining NCR today?
It's a good opportunity to challenge yourself, get you out your comfort zone. We are at heart a technology company and are very innovative, but there are also great careers in the “back office” that aid the delivery of new innovation in to the market place.

What everyday word sums up working here. “Passionate” says it all for me, I actually love my work.

My career with NCR started in 1998, when I joined the company as a Logistics Coordinator. Over the next 8 years, I was a part of our Field Support Centre, responsible for dispatching and coordinating customer engineer's within a specific geographic region in the UK, ensuring customer SLA's were met. Having been a team leader for 3 years, an opportunity arose within our new HR Shared Services team and I transitioned into that role in 2006. Here I was responsible for a team of 7 agents, providing 1st level HR Support to managers and employees across EMEA. In Dec 2007, I moved into my current role as a Talent Acquisition Consultant, and I am responsible for the recruitment across the UK and Western Europe.

What's an everyday kind of day?
Liaising with managers and candidates that are aligned to any open requisitions. Reviewing and sourcing CV's, arranging and conducting telephone interviews, offer negotiations, preparing offer letters.

What makes your day?
Knowing that I have made a difference whether it be to an internal customer (hiring manager) or an external customer (candidate). I'm the first point of contact for someone interested in joining our company, and I like to make sure that they have a great impression of NCR as an organisation.

What makes everyday a learning day?
Working in recruitment has taught me so much about NCR as a company. We have so many different organisations and functions, that it would be impossible to know everything, but in this role, I have been exposed to so many of these, that I never had in my previous roles. I learn new things on a daily basis, and for me that is very important.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining NCR today?
It's exciting to be a part of something that touches everyone in the world in one way or another, whether they know it or not.

Annmarie Mann

Solution Support Specialist
Dundee, Scotland

Tell us briefly about your career so far at NCR.
My career with NCR began, where every good employee begins, in the mailroom! This role lasted only a few months before being upgraded to Office Services. This role was a great way to build up a network of people across all areas and industries. I went back to college and gained qualifications that enabled me to transition to the Financial Services line of business. This is where I learned about our ATM side of the business. I've been with NCR now for over 20 years and have built upon my knowledge and experience enough to be able to serve at a consultancy level.

What's an everyday kind of day?
In my role, there is no such thing as a typical day. Every day is different with daily contact from professionals all over the world looking for assistance with all sorts of product questions.

What makes your day?
Getting great feedback; Someone telling me that I have contributed to help them to achieve; Having a laugh with colleagues.

Tell us about an everyday challenge...
NCR, as a company, doesn't stay the same for very long. We are continually evolving and developing, which is understandable, and necessary, to stay ahead of our competitors. We then have the challenge, which can be an exciting one, to prepare and learn about new products that usually prove to be more innovative than the last.

What makes everyday a learning day?
You don't always have to take online training courses at NCR to learn something new. Although, there are lots of training courses available through our own NCR University (NCRU) for anyone who needs them. Another way of learning to understand a requirement is by interacting with fellow, highly skilled colleagues.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining NCR today?
NCR can take their dedicated and talented people to some interesting places.

Everyday wisdom for someone new...
Print off a list of acronyms, because in NCR anything that can be shortened to 3 letters will be!

Tell us briefly about your career so far at NCR.
Well, it's been a long career spanning more than 30 years. I first started as a CE and have since worked as a Level 2 support specialist, technical instructor, project manager, field service manager, ESM, engagement manager, solution architect and held numerous management positions in Services. While I have always been based in Australia I have travelled extensively through Asia and have had the chance to meet many NCR associates and customers along the way. It has been an enjoyable journey.

What's an everyday kind of day?
Most days are non-stop from before I even reach the office. I take time on the train to read email. Stop for a coffee to plan my day. Then act surprised when all my plans get thrown into chaos by some unexpected problem. Such is the mature of the services business.

What makes your day?
I love fixing problems for people whether they be technical, operations or business related. It is satisfying to know that I have made a difference in someone's day.

What was the first thing you did today?
I can't function without caffeine. First thing is always a cup of tea.

Tell us about an everyday challenge...
One of the biggest challenges is managing email. I find there is only so much you can get done in a 26 hour day and that's largely because of so much email. It's at epidemic proportions.

What makes everyday a learning day?
Customers make everyday a learning day. They are all different and while they continually give us new challenges and problems to solve, these are what lead us to new ideas and solutions.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining NCR today?
If you are looking for a mundane, nine to five job…don't join. If you are looking for a challenge that will test your skills and stretch your abilities... welcome aboard!!!

Everyday wisdom for someone new.
Hope and persistence are powerful forces. Hope gives us a goal. Persistence will get us there. Never give up on either.

Coming from an engineering team where new innovations are constantly being applied to meet the demands of our customers. You have this wonderful opportunity to solve real life problems. I really think this is the strength of NCR. Able to strategically adapt to new opportunities and in return employees like me grow together with the company.
