Due to the increasing use of electrical and electronic products in nearly every aspect of our lives, new legislation is increasingly being enacted to ensure that the resulting “electronic waste” is properly managed at the end of its useful life. The European Union Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), which became effective beginning August 13, 2005, places certain obligations on producers of electrical and electronic equipment for the recovery and proper treatment of the products they supply.
NCR hardware products are covered by the WEEE Directive under Categories 3 (IT and Telecommunications Equipment) and 10 (Automatic Dispensers). All of the products NCR produces and supplies are intended for commercial use, and therefore must be handled in accordance with the directive’s provisions for “WEEE from users other than private households.”
NCR’s product decommissioning, recycling, and refurbishment programs are fully compliant with the WEEE Directive. We continue to monitor the transposition and implementation of the directive into law in each European Union Member State, in order to maintain ongoing compliance. In addition, we will continue to work with our customers and suppliers to determine the most appropriate methods to meet the directive’s recovery and recycling targets.
