NCR ATM Security - Innovation and choice in fighting ATM fraud and attacks

The ATM is increasingly becomes a global target for organized crime. ATM vendors and deployers who respond in a piecemeal, tactical fashion are only delaying the problem or temporarily moving it elsewhere.

To maintain the extraordinary level of trust that consumers place in self-service and avoid the hard cash losses associated with fraud, the industry must adopt a holistic security strategy that protects the ATM channel at all potential points of compromise.

NCR continues to lead the industry in safeguarding the future and integrity of the self-service channel through investing in new technologies, services and initiatives to stay ahead of the criminal.

Card fraud prevention
The global rise in payment card fraud means we continue to see organized crime targeting the ATM. Implementation of the chip card and migration to EMV-certified technology are reducing cash losses associated with card skimming, however while the magnetic stripe remains on the card there will still be opportunities for exploitation. NCR's multi-layered approach to protecting card holder data at the ATM offers choice and flexibility in reducing risk and ranges from hardware countermeasures such as the Fraudulent Device Inhibitor (FDI) with Jitter, integration and support of multi-vendor third party solutions, through to NCR's next generation active fraud prevention measures.

Physical ATM security
Brute force attacks on ATMs are widespread, and as the types of attack change and the success rate is improving cash losses associated with physical attacks are increasing. As well as a broad selection of heavy-duty safes, alarms, advanced locks, integrated cameras and monitoring equipment, NCR offers ink-staining technology that deters crime by spoiling the prize.

ATM security for card holder authentication
NCR’s PTS-DSS approved EPP keyboards support PCI-DSS requirements as well as Remote Key Management (RKM) – secure, remote loading a unique master encryption key.

ATM security software and compliance
Ever since NCR put the first PC into an ATM over ten years ago, software security has been a number one priority for NCR. NCR offers industry-leading, unique levels of “inside out” defence, IT control and regulatory compliance to combat future threats and risks. NCR's multi-layered approach to software security includes APTRA software development and lifecycle management, PA-DSS compliant applications and Solidcore Suite for APTRA. With NCR’s Solidcore Suite for APTRA , ATMs are effectively ‘locked down’ against the risks in today’s environment - including insider attacks. Centralized management and automated reporting also support PCI-DSS compliance.

NCR's strategic partnership with McAfee, the world’s largest dedicated security technology company means that NCR is now offering our security, control and compliance software, Solidcore Suite for APTRA, for use with the McAfee® ePolicy Orchestrator® (McAfee ePO™) platform. This gives enhanced protection for your ATM channel and simplified security through end-to-end network visibility and automated delivery of security responses.
