Designing 21st century computer infrastructure in an ancient land

The oil rich nations of the Middle East are investing much of their wealth in 21st century infrastructure. A good example are the new Muscat International and Salalah Airports that are currently under construction in the Sultanate of Oman. Muscat has been an important port since the time of Ptolemy and Pliny the Elder two millenia ago.

Today, the two Omani air terminals will serve the booming business and leisure air travel, as well as aerial freight transport to the Mideast. In fact the International Air Transport Association forecasts that by the year 2016, the Middle East will have the world's third fastest growing air passenger rate at 6.6%. IATA also calculates that the region will experience an increase in air freight demand of 4.9%, leading the rest of the world.
