NCR RealScan™ 74 OFX with ADT anti-theft tag deactivators helps retailers combat theft and improve checkout productivity
DAYTON, Ohio – To help fight shrinkage and boost point-of-sale (POS) productivity in a variety of retail environments, NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) announced that its low-profile bi-optic bar code scanning technology is now enhanced with industry-leading anti-theft tag deactivation capabilities from ADT, a leading global provider of electronic fire and security solutions. The solution integrates ADT’s extended line of Sensormatic® Ultra•Max® deactivators with NCR’s latest generation, small-footprint bi-optic scanner/scale, the NCR RealScan 74 OFX .
According to the 2007 Global Retail Theft Barometer , an annual study conducted by the Centre for Retail Research, dollar losses from theft and fraud are increasingly impacting retailers worldwide. In fact, in the 32 countries surveyed, shrinkage costs retailers over $98 billion in 2007, equivalent to 1.36 percent of their sales.
In a typical store environment, retailers often equip merchandise with anti-theft tags that alert them to shoppers attempting to remove items without payment. These anti-theft tags need to be deactivated or removed from purchased goods prior to a shopper leaving the store. Now, retailers can scan an item’s bar code while simultaneously deactivating the anti-theft tag all in one step. This is possible because ADT’s technology integrates the tag deactivation coil directly into the scanner.
“Integrating the ability to turn off anti-theft labels with NCR’s high-performance, small-footprint scanning will help make checkout a more accurate and fluid transaction, improving both employee productivity and customer satisfaction,” said Richard Arnold, NCR vice president of Industry Marketing, Retail and Hospitality. “In addition to improving the shopping experience, increased deactivation reliability will enhance operational efficiency by reducing re-checks and shrink.”
The NCR RealScan 74 OFX features high-performance scanning in a low-profile footprint that makes it ideal for compact checkout stations or seated cashier environments, like those commonly found in European stores.
“Now enhanced with industry-leading deactivation technology from ADT, this scanning solution from NCR fulfills the demand throughout the European market for ways to improve checkout efficiencies and loss prevention in the high-volume retail formats common throughout the region,” said John Smith, vice president of Retail Sales for ADT Europe, Middle East and Africa.
