NCR Laser Cartridges – Environmental Impact

Making a Difference to our Environment

NCR is dedicated to protecting the environment and is continuously looking for new and innovative ways to ensure our operation is run in a sustainable manner. A remanufactured printer cartridge is a cartridge that has been restored to its original performance standards and function. This process thereby diverts the cartridge from the solid waste stream, retaining, to the extent practicable, components that have been through at least one life cycle and replacing consumable or normal wear components.

A remanufactured cartridge DOES NOT include a new plastic casing. Remanufacturing is considered the highest form of recycling by the Environmental Protection Agency because it requires the least amount of energy to make a product ready for reuse. Remanufacturing toner cartridges helps save energy as well as reduces pollution and waste by minimizing the amount of materials, such as plastic, steel, aluminum and rubber disposed of in landfills. It also conserves natural resources by significantly reducing the amount of virgin materials used to make new cartridges.

The following is a list by product of the most significant materials and the final disposal of those items. These materials are recycled through a certified metal recycler:

  • Metal wiper blades
  • Metal doctor blades
  • OPC drums
  • Aluminum developer roller sleeves

Cardboard, test paper and office paper are recycled via a certified recycler. Light bulbs, light ballasts and batteries are all recycled via certified recycling partners.

Beginning in 2009

We are dedicated to fueling our economy and bringing prosperity into our communities. All of our products are exclusively produced in the US and Canada, where high environmental standards are of the utmost importance. As a part of our efforts to redirect waste from landfills, we dispose of spent cartridges and toner via a state of the art waste-to-energy facility. The ISO 14001 certified energy recovery facility provides us with the secure disposal of these waste products and at the same time converts the energy inherently stored in these products into electricity that is then sold in the open market. In essence, our operations will only send to landfills the same items that would be sent from general household waste.
