NCR introduces self-service hotel check-in/checkout in Japan

Teams with NEC to extend self-service convenience to guests at Hotel Tokyu

DULUTH, Ga. - NCR today announced it has partnered with NEC Corporation to deliver NCR self-service check-in/check-out kiosks to luxury Japanese hotel chain Hotel Tokyu.  Deployment at the recently opened Bizfort Naha location is complete, and two additional deployments are scheduled for Hotel Tokyu properties in Kobe-Motomachi and Hakata later this year.

The NCR EasyPoint Advantage kiosks allow hotel guests to perform a number of tasks, such as check in and check out, locate and modify reservations, and settle hotel charges in cash, credit or loyalty points.  The kiosks, supported by NCR Services to help maximize uptime, can also issue integrated circuit card room keys. Providing guests with the control to perform these tasks at their convenience can help reduce wait times and alleviate congestion at the registration desk during peak times.

“Travelers have come to expect the convenience of self-service throughout their journey, not just at the airport,” said Vice President of NCR Travel Industry Marketing Tania Ladic.  “As we’ve seen in multiple other industries, hoteliers are beginning to deploy self-service as a means to address that expectation and strengthen guest loyalty while optimizing staff resources.”

A recent survey conducted by market research firm BuzzBack Research on behalf of NCR reveals that 66% of Japanese consumers are more likely to select travel companies, such as hotels, that offer the convenience of self-service.  Globally, that number jumps to an average of 82 percent.

Beyond providing a means to improve service for guests, the kiosks can help drive incremental revenue for hotel operators.  Integrated with NEC’s property management system, the kiosks facilitate a number of up-sell transactions, such as room upgrades, dining options and other services.
