NCR announces completion of market building phase of 2ST™ printer IP licensing program

Current licensing program to end Dec. 1, 2009

Dayton, Ohio – NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today announced the end of the market building phase of its two-sided thermal printing technology (2ST) intellectual property (IP) licensing program, effective December 1, 2009. Companies that enter into a 2ST printer IP license by that date will receive more favorable terms.  After that date, 2ST printer IP licenses will be offered on significantly higher terms, if they are offered at all.

NCR’s patented 2ST printing technology improves the efficiency of the printing process by allowing simultaneous printing on both the front and back side of a receipt, label or other media. By printing on both the front and back side, 2ST printing also provides significant environmental benefit, using as much as 45 percent less paper.

The adoption rate of 2ST is growing. New 2009 2ST printer installations are on track to more than double the current installed base.  In addition, new products and applications are being developed for two-sided thermal printing including 2ST label printers, which allow businesses to maximize the real estate on their shipping labels and reduce the number of shipping documents that need to be printed. “The value of 2ST printing has been clearly validated by continued customer adoption and industry recognition, such as NCR’s customer, Sainsburys, winning the 2008 European Retail Solutions Award for ‘Best Green IT Initiative’,” said Dan Bogan, senior vice president and general manager, NCR Consumables Solutions.

2ST printers are now available for a wide variety of printing applications including point-of-sale, automated teller machines, airline boarding pass, and labeling, as well as a variety of kiosk applications.
