Kennebec Savings Bank: An NCR Case Study

The customer

Kennebec Savings Bank is a $607 million state chartered mutual savings bank which was established in Augusta, Maine in 1870. Kennebec Savings Bank serves personal customers and small-to medium-sized businesses in its market, satisfying their financial needs with personalized quality service and up-to-date products. Kennebec Savings Bank has ambitions to expand its existing presence throughout the central Maine service area via the introduction of further Electronic Banking Centers (EBCs) and drive-up ATMs. It is the first community bank in New England to adopt “No Envelope” Intelligent Deposit at the ATM.

The challenge

As Kennebec Savings Bank would be the first community bank in New England to offer Intelligent Deposit at the ATM, a key challenge would be to ensure wide take-up of the service by customers unfamiliar with the new technology. In addition to attracting customers from the teller counter, Kennebec Savings Bank would need to re-educate customers accustomed to using Envelope Deposit.

For NCR the challenge was to deploy the new “No Envelope” technology into both drive-up and vestibule locations. In both instances the solution would require clear, easy-to-understand customer instructions and ATM screen lead-through.
