Maywood Market selects NCR reseller, North Country Business Products, to provide store automation solutions and services
DULUTH, Georgia – NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today announced that Maywood Market has selected its point-of-sale (POS) software and hardware solutions, along with BRdata’s back office solutions, in order to provide a faster and more convenient shopping experience and run in-store promotions. The solutions were sold and serviced by NCR authorized reseller North Country Business Products (NCBP).
For the front of the store, Maywood Market chose NCR Advanced Checkout Solution (ACS), a feature-rich POS software application for grocery retailers, regardless of store size or sales volume. Each checkout lane will be equipped with an NCR RealPOS™ High Performance Bi-Optic Scanner/Scale, an NCR RealPOS 80XRTworkstation with the NCR RealPOS DynaKey™ cashier interface, and a credit/debit card reader with signature capture.
The retailer also plans to implement BRdata Retail BOSS™, a complete back-office software package designed to manage and maintain all the areas of the business, from automation of in-store functions to distribution and price management.
Most of Maywood’s food stores disappeared in the decades after a large manufacturing operation there closed in 1975. But earlier this year, three investors began working with local officials to help rejuvenate Maywood by bringing full-service grocery shopping back to the community’s residents. Expected to open in early 2010, Maywood Market will contain a bakery, meat and seafood departments, a deli, frozen food section, fresh fruits and vegetables and dairy products.
In addition to rehabilitating a building near the heart of the Village of Maywood, Ill. at 615 South Fifth Ave., the owners are investing in technology designed to deliver a fast and convenient shopping experience while optimizing operational efficiency.
“We want every aspect of this store to demonstrate our long-term commitment to the community,” said Maywood Market General Manager Dimitri Stathopoulos. “For us, that means using NCR technology, which has a reputation for outstanding performance and reliability. And we are counting on NCBP to assure a smooth deployment – to include staging, installation and training – plus ongoing help desk and maintenance services.”
Stathopoulos noted that the combination of NCR ACS software and the DynaKey interface has been shown to reduce cashier training and increase cashier productivity. “This will prove especially important to us during startup,” he said, “because we plan to hire within the community, and some of our employees may not have much previous retail experience.”
Maywood Market also plans to implement the NCR ACS Consumer Marketing (CM) module.
“ACS CM is designed to let us quickly and readily create promotions in the store, with no special computer knowledge or support,” Stathopoulos said. “Best of all, we’ll have great flexibility to come up with offers that are exciting and relevant to our customers, and execute them accurately at the checkout.”
North Country Business Products recently expanded into Chicago and met with Maywood Market almost immediately.
“Not only was there synergy between their store automation objectives and the NCR ACS and BR Data solutions, but we also found compatibility between our company philosophies and values,” said NCBP Director of Grocery Sales Christopher Kardashian. “Our core business is about supporting the needs of every independent retailer, large or small, whether in western North Dakota or the west side of Chicago. We are especially proud to partner with Maywood Market – a great example of an independent retailer willing to serve a market ignored by others but in need of a full-service grocery.”
North Country Business Products is part of the NCR Partner Program, accredited as an Elite partner who works with NCR on integrating its advanced application software with NCR’s solutions and developing joint business plans.
