As the stage for the world’s greatest athletes, London was a showcase for contactless payments with Olympics sponsor Visa working hard, and not without some controversy, to promote exclusive card acceptance at the Games. Across the country Visa predicts that the number of contactless point-of-sale terminals will rise by 50% to 150,000 by year end and two of Britain’s major high street banks are now routinely issuing contactless debit cards to their customers.
