Bar Monaco, Quebec: An NCR Case Study

The customer

Bar Monaco is a popular and renowned establishment set in a lively, social quarter of Quebec, Canada. First set up in 1973, Bar Monaco is open to the public every day of the year from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. It incorporates a bar, restaurant and slot machine facilities, as well as services for lottery payment. It serves approximately 200 customers per day and employs 15 people.

The challenge

With an urgent need to replace its cash dispenser (which it had used for over 20 years), Bar Monaco was looking to automize its cash recycling, processing and replenishing procedures—as they were spending valuable staff time on this manual activity.

Taking up to, and often exceeding, two hours every night, previous end-of-day settlement involved individual count, envelope deposit and recount in the bar’s main office, situated some distance from the slot machines and tills. A solution was sought that would make this undertaking simpler and easier for staff and help reduce costs for the business. Improving efficiency and security were also of paramount importance, since cash was being handled on a regular basis, increasing the possibility of human error, counterfeit acceptance and robbery.
