2011 Travel Consumer Research: An NCR White Paper

New consumer research commissioned by NCR Corporation reveals that consumers may be ready to start their vacation before arriving at their destination by taking advantage of a growing selection of airport amenities. The widespread adoption of self-service kiosk, web and mobile technologies has expedited the check-in process, leaving travelers with more time to frequent restaurants, bars and retailers, and many would like an even greater variety of entertainment options while waiting to board their flight.

Airports Council International estimates passenger loads will double to more than 10B by 2027. While this anticipated growth will likely create a strain on passenger processing, it also creates an opportunity for airport operators, increasingly dependent upon non-aeronautical revenues, to adopt a more traveler-focused infrastructure.

To help airport planners and directors identify how to further optimize passenger flow while maximizing incremental revenue potential, NCR commissioned consumer research to understand how and where today’s traveler is likely to interact in an airport environment, and how airports can facilitate this interaction.
